The Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB)
The Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) is the largest international organization dedicated to election management. Since its establishment in 2013, A-WEB has operated under the guidance of its Charter, a foundational document created and amended by the General Assembly, which outlines the organization’s mission, vision, and core values.
The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has been a member of the A-WEB since 2013 and has consistently contributed to the organization’s initiatives. Since 2023, ECM has been serving as a member of the A-WEB Executive Board.

FORUM OF THE ELECTION MANAGEMENT BODIES OF SOUTH ASIA (FEMBOSA)
The Forum of the Election Management Bodies of South Asia (FEMBoSA) was established in 2010, following the first meeting of representatives from the Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Pakistan, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh. At the conclusion of this meeting, the participants agreed to form a regional organization aimed at strengthening cooperation and collaboration among the EMBs of South Asia.
Subsequently, Annual General Meetings have been hosted by member countries, and a Charter was formally adopted to guide the Forum’s objectives and activities.
Main Responsibilities and Functions
FEMBoSA is committed to enhancing the integrity and professionalism of election management in the region through the following key functions:
- Fostering communication and collaboration among the EMBs of SAARC member countries.
- Facilitating the sharing of experiences to promote mutual learning and institutional development.
- Promoting the exchange of knowledge and expertise in electoral practices and innovations.
- Enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of conducting free, fair, transparent, and participatory elections across the region.

ASSOCIATION OF ASIAN ELECTION AUTHORITIES (AAEA)
The Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) is a regional non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting and institutionalizing open and transparent elections, independent and impartial election authorities, and the professional development of election administrators across the Asia-Pacific region.
AAEA also emphasizes the importance of citizen participation in electoral and civic processes, the exchange of information, and the development of resources for election-related research and education.
AAEA was officially established on February 10, 1998, following a resolution adopted during the Symposium on Asian Elections in the Twenty-First Century, held from January 26–29, 1997, in Manila, Philippines.
Currently, the Association comprises 20 Election Management Bodies (EMBs) from across Asia. The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has been an active member since 2014. As of 2024, the ECM is serving as a member of the AAEA Executive Board.
