Maldives Participates in 12th Annual EMBs Meeting on Electoral Technology and Disinformation in Georgia

The Elections Commission of the Maldives participated in the 12th Annual Meeting of Election Management Bodies (EMBs), held from June 5–6, 2025, in Kakheti, Georgia. The conference, themed “ICT Utilization Experience and Impact of Disinformation on Electoral Credibility,” convened global electoral experts to examine how information technology can enhance election integrity and address the growing challenge of disinformation.
Representing the Maldives at this prominent gathering were Mr. Mohamed Zahid, President of the Elections Commission, and Mr. Mohamed Aneel, Director of the Administration and Information Technology Division. Their participation underscored the Commission’s commitment to promoting transparency, digital innovation, and resilience in democratic processes.
Mr. Aneel delivered a keynote presentation during Session III: Countering Disinformation and Safeguarding Electoral Credibility. His address, titled “Innovating Electoral Processes Through E-Services and Modernizing Election Management with Digital Solutions,” showcased the Maldives' progress in implementing e-services, enhancing accessibility, and strengthening cybersecurity within its electoral framework.
Organized by the Central Election Commission of Georgia, the forum featured three core sessions:
- Leveraging Technology for Electoral Integrity – examining practices such as biometric verification, electronic voting, and digital result tabulation.
- Innovating Electoral Processes Through E-Services – highlighting digital registration, complaints systems, and online voter engagement platforms.
- Countering Disinformation – exploring responses to misinformation, foreign influence, and trust-building strategies.
Keynote speakers and panelists included senior election officials and experts from the United Kingdom, Armenia, Albania, the United States, South Africa, and other countries, who shared experiences and insights on the modernization of electoral systems.
The Maldives Elections Commission’s active engagement at the conference reflects its growing role in global electoral cooperation and its dedication to leveraging technology to ensure inclusive, transparent, and credible elections.
