The Election Commission of the Maldives has officially commenced the Training of Trainers (TOT) program for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee Elections, scheduled for 4 April 2026.
The TOT program, designed for trainers who will conduct training sessions for election officials nationwide, is being held at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Male’, from today through Friday, 9 January 2026. A total of 95 trainers representing all atolls are participating in this program, alongside representatives from the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.

The primary objective of the TOT program is to ensure that all election officials are comprehensively prepared to carry out their responsibilities at polling stations in strict accordance with the laws and regulations governing elections. Participants will receive a combination of academic instruction and technical training, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary for a transparent, efficient, and fair electoral process.
Upon completion of the TOT program, the trainers will conduct training sessions for polling station officials, beginning on 11 January 2026, thereby ensuring nationwide readiness ahead of the elections.
The Election Commission reiterates its commitment to upholding the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and integrity in the administration of the 2026 Local Council and Women’s Development Committee Elections.
