To assist the Commissioner
of Elections in carrying out the following functions in
accordance with the Constitution and law of the Republic
of Maldives and to perform such tasks as may be directed
by the Commissioner of Elections in relation to those
functions. |

a- |
To
prepare and maintain a Register of persons legally
satisfying the requirements of voting age in elections
in the Maldives. |
|
|
|
|
b- |
To organise and conduct in
Presidential elections, all matters relating to the
determination of persons qualified under Article 34 of
the Constitution, from among persons who, in accordance
with the law, submit applications to become candidates
for the office of the President; the notification of the
same to the speaker of the People's Majlis; and the
public notification of the same. |

c- |
To organise and conduct
all matters relating to the notification of the date of
the general public vote to elect the President; conduct
of polling; and notification of the result of such polls
taken. |

|
|
d- |
To organise and conduct
all matters relating to notification inviting submission
of applications to become candidates in the election of
members to the People's Majlis; notification of the
names of the candidates; notification of the date and
time of polling and polling stations; and notification
of the results of the Election. |

|
|
e- |
Where the People's Special
Majlis is to be convened, to organise and conduct all
matters relating to notification inviting submission of
applications to become candidates in the election of
members of the People's Special Majlis; notification of
the names of the candidates; notification of the date
and the time of polling and polling stations; and
notification of the results of the Election. |

f- |
To organise and conduct
public referendums as may be required by the President
to obtain pubic opinion. |
|
|
|
2- |
To organise and conduct
all matters relating to elections held for the purposes
of the government, which are determined to be held by
the Office of the Commissioner of Elections, in addition
to elections mentioned in the Constitution. |

|
3- |
To organise and conduct
all matters of law relating to the functions of the
Office of the Commissioner of Elections. |
