A delegation from the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM), comprising Vice President Mr. Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed and Commission Member Mr. Abdul Haseeb Ismail, participated in the international observation programme for the Elections of Deputies of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held on 23 August 2026.

The observation programme was organised by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan and brought together international observers from various election management bodies and institutions. The programme provided participants with an opportunity to observe the electoral process and gain insights into Kazakhstan’s electoral framework, administration, and practices.

As part of the programme, the ECM delegation attended an official briefing for international observers at the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan. The delegation also participated in a presentation by the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, which provided an overview of Kazakhstan’s developments in digital governance and the application of digital technologies within public administration.

The delegation further attended an official reception hosted by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan, Mr. Nurlan Abdirov, alongside representatives of other international observer delegations.

On Election Day, the ECM delegation observed the opening of polling stations and the voting process, including visits to polling stations to observe the conduct and administration of polling activities. The delegation subsequently observed the closing of polling stations and the vote-counting process, providing an opportunity to gain practical insights into the procedures undertaken at the conclusion of voting.

Following the completion of Election Day activities, the delegation attended a briefing by the Central Election Commission on the preliminary election results and participated in a press conference involving the Heads of International Observer Delegations.

The participation of the ECM delegation in the observation programme provided valuable comparative insights into electoral administration and international electoral practices. It also contributed to strengthening institutional cooperation and facilitating the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and good practices among election management bodies.

The ECM continues to value international engagement and participation in electoral observation programmes as an important avenue for enhancing professional knowledge, strengthening institutional partnerships, and promoting the exchange of experiences in the field of election management.
